Слушай, Израиль: ты теперь идешь за Иордан, чтобы пойти овладеть народами, которые больше и сильнее тебя, городами большими, с укреплениями до небес,

Когда будет изгонять их Господь, Бог твой, от лица твоего, не говори в сердце твоем, что за праведность мою привел меня Господь овладеть сею [доброю] землею, и что за нечестие народов сих Господь изгоняет их от лица твоего;

не за праведность твою и не за правоту сердца твоего идешь ты наследовать землю их, но за нечестие [и беззакония] народов сих Господь, Бог твой, изгоняет их от лица твоего, и дабы исполнить слово, которым клялся Господь отцам твоим Аврааму, Исааку и Иакову;

Помни, не забудь, сколько ты раздражал Господа, Бога твоего, в пустыне: с самого того дня, как вышел ты из земли Египетской, и до самого прихода вашего на место сие вы противились Господу.

И при Хориве вы раздражали Господа, и прогневался на вас Господь, так что хотел истребить вас,

когда я взошел на гору, чтобы принять скрижали каменные, скрижали завета, который поставил Господь с вами, и пробыл на горе сорок дней и сорок ночей, хлеба не ел и воды не пил,

не удерживай Меня, и Я истреблю их, и изглажу имя их из поднебесной, а от тебя произведу народ, который будет [больше,] сильнее и многочисленнее их.

Я обратился и пошел с горы, гора же горела огнем; две скрижали завета были в обеих руках моих;

и видел я, что вы согрешили против Господа, Бога вашего, сделали себе литого тельца, скоро уклонились от пути, которого [держаться] заповедал вам Господь;

и взял я обе скрижали, и бросил их из обеих рук своих, и разбил их пред глазами вашими.

«Hear, O Israel: You are to cross over the Jordan today, and go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to heaven,

a people great and tall, the descendants of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you heard it said, «Who can stand before the descendants of Anak?́

Therefore understand today that the LORD your God is He who goes over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and bring them down before you; so you shall drive them out and destroy them quickly, as the LORD has said to you.

«Do not think in your heart, after the LORD your God has cast them out before you, saying, «Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land́; but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is driving them out from before you.

It is not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you go in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD your God drives them out from before you, and that He may fulfill the word which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Therefore understand that the LORD your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.

«Remember! Do not forget how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.

Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry enough with you to have destroyed you.

When I went up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.

Then the LORD delivered to me two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them were all the words which the LORD had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.

And it came to pass, at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

«Then the LORD said to me, «Arise, go down quickly from here, for your people whom you brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly; they have quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them; they have made themselves a molded image.́

«Furthermore the LORD spoke to me, saying, «I have seen this people, and indeed they are a stiff-necked people.

Let Me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.́

«So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire; and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the LORD your God--had made for yourselves a molded calf! You had turned aside quickly from the way which the LORD had commanded you.

Then I took the two tablets and threw them out of my two hands and broke them before your eyes.

And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you committed in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger.

For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the LORD was angry with you, to destroy you. But the LORD listened to me at that time also.

And the LORD was very angry with Aaron and would have destroyed him; so I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.

Then I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it and ground it very small, until it was as fine as dust; and I threw its dust into the brook that descended from the mountain.

«Also at Taberah and Massah and Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked the LORD to wrath.

Likewise, when the LORD sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, «Go up and possess the land which I have given you,́ then you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and you did not believe Him nor obey His voice.

You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

«Thus I prostrated myself before the LORD; forty days and forty nights I kept prostrating myself, because the LORD had said He would destroy you.

Therefore I prayed to the LORD, and said: «O Lord GOD, do not destroy Your people and Your inheritance whom You have redeemed through Your greatness, whom You have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

Remember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not look on the stubbornness of this people, or on their wickedness or their sin,

lest the land from which You brought us should say, «Because the LORD was not able to bring them to the land which He promised them, and because He hated them, He has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.»

Yet they are Your people and Your inheritance, whom You brought out by Your mighty power and by Your outstretched arm.́

Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is across from Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead as far as Dan,

all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea,

the South, and the plain of the Valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar.

Then the LORD said to him, «This is the land of which I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, «I will give it to your descendants.́ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.»

So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth Peor; but no one knows his grave to this day.

Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished.

And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. So the days of weeping and mourning for Moses ended.

Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses.

But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,

in all the signs and wonders which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt, before Pharaoh, before all his servants, and in all his land,

and by all that mighty power and all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.

dixitque mihi: "Surge et descende hinc cito, quia peccavit populus tuus, quem eduxisti de Aegypto: deseruerunt velociter viam, quam praecepi eis, feceruntque sibi conflatile".

Rursumque ait Dominus ad me: "Cerno quod populus iste durae cervicis sit;

dimitte me, ut conteram eos et deleam nomen eorum sub caelo et faciam te in gentem, quae hac fortior et maior sit".

Cumque reversus de monte ardente descenderem et duas tabulas foederis utraque tenerem manu

vidissemque vos peccasse Domino Deo vestro et fecisse vobis vitulum conflatilem ac deseruisse velociter viam eius, quam Dominus vobis praeceperat,

arripui duas tabulas et proieci eas de manibus meis confregique eas in conspectu vestro;

et procidi ante Dominum, sicut prius quadraginta diebus et noctibus panem non comedens et aquam non bibens propter omnia peccata vestra, quae gessistis contra Dominum et eum ad iracundiam provocastis;

timui enim indignationem et iram illius, qua adversum vos concitatus delere vos voluit. Et exaudivit me Dominus etiam hac vice.

Adversum Aaron quoque vehementer iratus voluit eum conterere; et pro illo similiter tunc deprecatus sum.

Peccatum autem vestrum, quod feceratis, id est vitulum, arripiens igne combussi et in frusta comminuens omninoque in pulverem redigens proieci in torrentem, qui de monte descendit.

In Tabera quoque et in Massa et in Cibrottaava provocastis Dominum;

et quando misit Dominus vos de Cadesbarne dicens: "Ascendite et possidete terram, quam dedi vobis", contempsistis imperium Domini Dei vestri et non credidistis ei neque vocem eius audire voluistis;

semper fuistis rebelles contra Dominum a die, qua nosse vos coepi.

Et iacui coram Domino quadraginta diebus ac noctibus, quibus eum suppliciter deprecabar, ne deleret vos, ut fuerat comminatus.

Et orans dixi: Domine Deus, ne disperdas populum tuum et hereditatem tuam, quam redemisti in magnitudine tua, quos eduxisti de Aegypto in manu forti.

Recordare servorum tuorum Abraham, Isaac et Iacob; ne aspicias duritiam populi huius et impietatem atque peccatum,

ne forte dicant habitatores terrae, de qua eduxisti nos: "Non poterat Dominus introducere eos in terram, quam pollicitus est eis, et oderat illos; idcirco eduxit, ut interficeret eos in solitudine".

Attamen ipsi sunt populus tuus et hereditas tua, quos eduxisti in fortitudine tua magna et in brachio tuo extento.

Ascendit ergo Moyses de campestribus Moab super montem Nabo in verticem Phasga contra Iericho; ostenditque ei Dominus omnem terram Galaad usque Dan

et universum Nephthali terramque Ephraim et Manasse et omnem terram Iudae usque ad mare occidentale

et Nageb et latitudinem campi Iericho civitatis palmarum usque Segor.

Dixitque Dominus ad eum: «Haec est terra, pro qua iuravi Abraham, Isaac et Iacob, dicens: Semini tuo dabo eam. Vidisti eam oculis tuis et non transibis ad illam».

Mortuusque est ibi Moyses servus Domini in terra Moab, iubente Domino.

Et sepelivit eum in valle in terra Moab contra Bethphegor; et non cognovit homo sepulcrum eius usque in praesentem diem.

Moyses centum et viginti annorum erat, quando mortuus est; non caligavit oculus eius, nec robur illius defecit.

Fleveruntque eum filii Israel in campestribus Moab triginta diebus; et completi sunt dies planctus lugentium Moysen.

Iosue vero filius Nun repletus est spiritu sapientiae, quia Moyses posuit super eum manus suas; et oboedierunt ei filii Israel feceruntque, sicut praecepit Dominus Moysi.

Et non surrexit ultra propheta in Israel sicut Moyses, quem nosset Dominus facie ad faciem,

in omnibus signis atque portentis, quae misit per eum, ut faceret in terra Aegypti pharaoni et omnibus servis eius universaeque terrae illius,

et in cuncta manu robusta magnisque mirabilibus, quae fecit Moyses coram universo Israel.
