И подо́бiе ли́цъ и́хъ, лице́ человѣ́чее и лице́ льво́во одесну́ю четы́ремъ, и лице́ те́лчее ошу́юю четы́ремъ, и лице́ о́рлее четы́ремъ:

и живо́тная теча́ху и обраща́хуся, я́ко видѣ́нiе везе́ково {блиста́нiя}.

И ви́дѣхъ, и се́, ко́ло еди́но земли́ держа́щееся живо́тныхъ четы́рехъ:

и видѣ́нiе коле́съ и сотворе́нiе и́хъ, я́ко видѣ́нiе Ѳарси́са, и подо́бiе еди́но четы́ремъ: и дѣ́ло и́хъ бя́ше, я́коже а́ще бы бы́ло ко́ло въ колеси́:

на четы́ри страны́ и́хъ ше́ствоваху: не обраща́хуся, внегда́ ше́ствовати и́мъ,

И я видел, и вот, бурный ветер шел от севера, великое облако и клубящийся огонь, и сияние вокруг него,

а из средины его как бы свет пламени из средины огня; и из средины его видно было подобие четырех животных, – и таков был вид их: облик их был, как у человека;

Вид колес и устроение их – как вид топаза, и подобие у всех четырех одно; и по виду их и по устроению их казалось, будто колесо находилось в колесе.

Im dreißigsten Jahr, am 5. Tag des 4. Monats, das ist im fünften Jahr, nachdem man König Jojachin in die Verbannung geführt hatte, erging das Wort des HERRN zum ersten Mal an Ezechiël, den Sohn des Priesters Busi. Dies geschah in Babylonien am Fluss Kebar. Damals legte der HERR seine Hand auf Ezechiël und nahm ihn in seinen Dienst. Ezechiël berichtet:

Ich lebte unter den Verbannten aus Juda am Fluss Kebar. An jenem Tag öffnete sich der Himmel und ich hatte eine Vision.

Ich sah, wie der Sturm eine mächtige Wolke von Norden herantrieb; sie war von einem hellen Schein umgeben und Blitze zuckten aus ihr. Die Wolke brach auf und aus ihrem Inneren leuchtete ein helles Licht wie der Glanz von gleißendem Gold.

In dem Licht sah ich vier Gestalten, die wie Menschen aussahen,

doch hatte jede von ihnen vier Flügel. Sie hatten Menschenbeine mit Hufen wie Stiere und ihr ganzer Körper funkelte wie blankes Metall. Unter den Flügeln sah ich vier Menschenarme, je einen Arm unter einem Flügel. Mit zwei von ihren Flügeln bedeckten sie ihren Leib, die beiden anderen hatten sie ausgespannt und mit den Enden der ausgespannten Flügel berührten sie sich gegenseitig.

Jede der geflügelten Gestalten hatte vier Gesichter: vorne das Gesicht eines Menschen, rechts das Gesicht eines Löwen, links das Gesicht eines Stiers und hinten das Gesicht eines Adlers. Sie konnten sich in alle vier Richtungen bewegen, ohne sich umzuwenden. Sie gingen, wohin der Geist Gottes sie trieb.

Zwischen den geflügelten Gestalten war etwas, das wie ein Kohlenfeuer aussah, und etwas wie Fackeln zuckte zwischen den Gestalten hin und her. Das Feuer leuchtete hell und aus dem Feuer kamen Blitze.

Die Gestalten liefen hin und her, dass es aussah wie Blitze.

Als ich genauer hinsah, erblickte ich neben jeder der vier Gestalten ein Rad, das den Boden berührte.

Alle Räder waren gleich groß und funkelten wie Edelsteine. In jedes Rad war ein zweites Rad im rechten Winkel eingefügt,

sodass es nach allen vier Richtungen laufen konnte, ohne vorher gedreht zu werden.

Die Räder waren riesengroß und ihre Felgen waren ringsum mit funkelnden Augen bedeckt – ein Furcht erregender Anblick.

Wenn sich die geflügelten Gestalten fortbewegten, dann bewegten sich auch die Räder mit ihnen, und wenn sich die Gestalten von der Erde erhoben, hoben sich auch die Räder von der Erde.

Ein Geist und ein Wille beherrschte alle vier. Wohin sie auch gingen, die Räder gingen mit, denn sie wurden von den Gestalten gelenkt. Ganz gleich, ob die geflügelten Gestalten sich bewegten oder stillstanden oder sich von der Erde erhoben – die Räder taten dasselbe.

Über den Köpfen der vier Gestalten sah ich etwas wie eine feste Platte, von der ein Schrecken erregender Glanz ausging wie von einem Kristall. Sie ruhte auf den Köpfen der Gestalten.

Unter der Platte hielten die Gestalten je zwei ihrer Flügel ausgespannt, mit deren Enden sie sich gegenseitig berührten; mit den beiden anderen Flügeln bedeckten sie ihren Leib.

Ich hörte das Rauschen der Flügel: Es dröhnte wie die Brandung des Meeres, wie ein Heerlager, wie die Donnerstimme des allmächtigen Gottes. Wenn sie stillstanden und ihre Flügel sinken ließen, hörte es nicht auf zu dröhnen, denn auch über der Platte rauschte es laut.

Auf der Platte aber stand etwas, das aussah wie ein Thron aus blauem Edelstein, und darauf war eine Gestalt zu erkennen, die einem Menschen glich.

Oberhalb der Stelle, wo beim Menschen die Hüften sind, sah ich etwas, das wie helles Gold aussah, umgeben von Feuerflammen, und unterhalb etwas wie loderndes Feuer. Die ganze Gestalt war von einem Lichtkranz umgeben,

der wie ein Regenbogen aussah, der nach dem Regen in den Wolken erscheint.

So zeigte sich mir der HERR in seiner strahlenden Herrlichkeit.

Als ich diese Erscheinung sah, stürzte ich zu Boden. Darauf hörte ich jemand reden,

Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the River Chebar, that the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.

On the fifth day of the month, which was in the fifth year of King Jehoiachińs captivity,

the word of the LORD came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the River Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was upon him there.

Then I looked, and behold, a whirlwind was coming out of the north, a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself; and brightness was all around it and radiating out of its midst like the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

Also from within it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the likeness of a man.

Each one had four faces, and each one had four wings.

Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the soles of calveś feet. They sparkled like the color of burnished bronze.

The hands of a man were under their wings on their four sides; and each of the four had faces and wings.

Their wings touched one another. The creatures did not turn when they went, but each one went straight forward.

As for the likeness of their faces, each had the face of a man; each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, each of the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and each of the four had the face of an eagle.

Thus were their faces. Their wings stretched upward; two wings of each one touched one another, and two covered their bodies.

And each one went straight forward; they went wherever the spirit wanted to go, and they did not turn when they went.

As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches going back and forth among the living creatures. The fire was bright, and out of the fire went lightning.

And the living creatures ran back and forth, in appearance like a flash of lightning.

Now as I looked at the living creatures, behold, a wheel was on the earth beside each living creature with its four faces.

The appearance of the wheels and their workings was like the color of beryl, and all four had the same likeness. The appearance of their workings was, as it were, a wheel in the middle of a wheel.

When they moved, they went toward any one of four directions; they did not turn aside when they went.

As for their rims, they were so high they were awesome; and their rims were full of eyes, all around the four of them.

When the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.

Wherever the spirit wanted to go, they went, because there the spirit went; and the wheels were lifted together with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

When those went, these went; when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up together with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

The likeness of the firmament above the heads of the living creatures was like the color of an awesome crystal, stretched out over their heads.

And under the firmament their wings spread out straight, one toward another. Each one had two which covered one side, and each one had two which covered the other side of the body.

When they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of many waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a tumult like the noise of an army; and when they stood still, they let down their wings.

A voice came from above the firmament that was over their heads; whenever they stood, they let down their wings.

And above the firmament over their heads was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like a sapphire stone; on the likeness of the throne was a likeness with the appearance of a man high above it.

Also from the appearance of His waist and upward I saw, as it were, the color of amber with the appearance of fire all around within it; and from the appearance of His waist and downward I saw, as it were, the appearance of fire with brightness all around.

Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around it. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. So when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of One speaking.
