It came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me.

Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

«Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, «Thus says the Lord GOD: «Have you come to inquire of Me? As I live,» says the Lord GOD, «I will not be inquired of by you.»́

Will you judge them, son of man, will you judge them? Then make known to them the abominations of their fathers.

«Say to them, «Thus says the Lord GOD: «On the day when I chose Israel and raised My hand in an oath to the descendants of the house of Jacob, and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt, I raised My hand in an oath to them, saying, «I am the LORD your God.́

On that day I raised My hand in an oath to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, «flowing with milk and honey,́ the glory of all lands.

Then I said to them, «Each of you, throw away the abominations which are before his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.́

But they rebelled against Me and would not obey Me. They did not all cast away the abominations which were before their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said, «I will pour out My fury on them and fulfill My anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.́

But I acted for My namés sake, that it should not be profaned before the Gentiles among whom they were, in whose sight I had made Myself known to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt.

«Therefore I made them go out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.

And I gave them My statutes and showed them My judgments, «which, if a man does, he shall live by them.́

Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them.

Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they did not walk in My statutes; they despised My judgments, «which, if a man does, he shall live by theḿ; and they greatly defiled My Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them in the wilderness, to consume them.

But I acted for My namés sake, that it should not be profaned before the Gentiles, in whose sight I had brought them out.

So I also raised My hand in an oath to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, «flowing with milk and honey,́ the glory of all lands,

because they despised My judgments and did not walk in My statutes, but profaned My Sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols.

Nevertheless My eye spared them from destruction. I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.

«But I said to their children in the wilderness, «Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, nor observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols.

I am the LORD your God: Walk in My statutes, keep My judgments, and do them;

hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.́

«Notwithstanding, the children rebelled against Me; they did not walk in My statutes, and were not careful to observe My judgments, «which, if a man does, he shall live by theḿ; but they profaned My Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them and fulfill My anger against them in the wilderness.

Nevertheless I withdrew My hand and acted for My namés sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the Gentiles, in whose sight I had brought them out.

Also I raised My hand in an oath to those in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the Gentiles and disperse them throughout the countries,

because they had not executed My judgments, but had despised My statutes, profaned My Sabbaths, and their eyes were fixed on their fatherś idols.

«Therefore I also gave them up to statutes that were not good, and judgments by which they could not live;

and I pronounced them unclean because of their ritual gifts, in that they caused all their firstborn to pass through the fire, that I might make them desolate and that they might know that I am the LORD.»́

«Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and say to them, «Thus says the Lord GOD: «In this too your fathers have blasphemed Me, by being unfaithful to Me.

When I brought them into the land concerning which I had raised My hand in an oath to give them, and they saw all the high hills and all the thick trees, there they offered their sacrifices and provoked Me with their offerings. There they also sent up their sweet aroma and poured out their drink offerings.

Then I said to them, «What is this high place to which you go?́ So its name is called Bamah to this day.»́

Therefore say to the house of Israel, «Thus says the Lord GOD: «Are you defiling yourselves in the manner of your fathers, and committing harlotry according to their abominations?

For when you offer your gifts and make your sons pass through the fire, you defile yourselves with all your idols, even to this day. So shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live,» says the Lord GOD, «I will not be inquired of by you.

What you have in your mind shall never be, when you say, «We will be like the Gentiles, like the families in other countries, serving wood and stone.́

«As I live,» says the Lord GOD, «surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you.

I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out.

And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will plead My case with you face to face.

Just as I pleaded My case with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will plead My case with you,» says the Lord GOD.

«I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant;

I will purge the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against Me; I will bring them out of the country where they dwell, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

«As for you, O house of Israel,» thus says the Lord GOD: «Go, serve every one of you his idols--and hereafter--if you will not obey Me; but profane My holy name no more with your gifts and your idols.

For on My holy mountain, on the mountain height of Israel,» says the Lord GOD, «there all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, shall serve Me; there I will accept them, and there I will require your offerings and the firstfruits of your sacrifices, together with all your holy things.

I will accept you as a sweet aroma when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered; and I will be hallowed in you before the Gentiles.

Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for which I raised My hand in an oath to give to your fathers.

And there you shall remember your ways and all your doings with which you were defiled; and you shall loathe yourselves in your own sight because of all the evils that you have committed.

Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I have dealt with you for My namés sake, not according to your wicked ways nor according to your corrupt doings, O house of Israel,» says the Lord GOD.»́

Furthermore the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

«Son of man, set your face toward the south; preach against the south and prophesy against the forest land, the South,

and say to the forest of the South, «Hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord GOD: «Behold, I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour every green tree and every dry tree in you; the blazing flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be scorched by it.

All flesh shall see that I, the LORD, have kindled it; it shall not be quenched.»»́

Then I said, «Ah, Lord GOD! They say of me, «Does he not speak parables?»́

La septième année, le dixième jour du cinquième mois, quelques-uns des anciens d'Israël vinrent pour consulter l'Éternel, et s'assirent devant moi.

Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

Fils de l'homme, parle aux anciens d'Israël, et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Est-ce pour me consulter que vous êtes venus? Je suis vivant! je ne me laisserai pas consulter par vous, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.

Veux-tu les juger, veux-tu les juger, fils de l'homme? Fais-leur connaître les abominations de leurs pères!

Tu leur diras: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Le jour où j'ai choisi Israël, j'ai levé ma main vers la postérité de la maison de Jacob, et je me suis fait connaître à eux dans le pays d'Égypte; j'ai levé ma main vers eux, en disant: Je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.

En ce jour-là, j'ai levé ma main vers eux, pour les faire passer du pays d'Égypte dans un pays que j'avais cherché pour eux, pays où coulent le lait et le miel, le plus beau de tous les pays.

Je leur dis: Rejetez chacun les abominations qui attirent ses regards, et ne vous souillez pas par les idoles de l'Égypte! Je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.

Et ils se révoltèrent contre moi, et ils ne voulurent pas m'écouter. Aucun ne rejeta les abominations qui attiraient ses regards, et ils n'abandonnèrent point les idoles de l'Égypte. J'eus la pensée de répandre ma fureur sur eux, d'épuiser contre eux ma colère, au milieu du pays d'Égypte.

Néanmoins j'ai agi par égard pour mon nom, afin qu'il ne soit pas profané aux yeux des nations parmi lesquelles ils se trouvaient, et aux yeux desquelles je m'étais fait connaître à eux, pour les faire sortir du pays d'Égypte.

Et je les fis sortir du pays d'Égypte, et je les conduisis dans le désert.

Je leur donnai mes lois et leur fis connaître mes ordonnances, que l'homme doit mettre en pratique, afin de vivre par elles.

Je leur donnai aussi mes sabbats comme un signe entre moi et eux, pour qu'ils connussent que je suis l'Éternel qui les sanctifie.

Et la maison d'Israël se révolta contre moi dans le désert. Ils ne suivirent point mes lois, et ils rejetèrent mes ordonnances, que l'homme doit mettre en pratique, afin de vivre par elles, et ils profanèrent à l'excès mes sabbats. J'eus la pensée de répandre sur eux ma fureur dans le désert, pour les anéantir.

Néanmoins j'ai agi par égard pour mon nom, afin qu'il ne soit pas profané aux yeux des nations en présence desquelles je les avait fait sortir d'Égypte.

Je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu. Suivez mes préceptes, observez mes ordonnances, et mettez-les en pratique.

Sanctifiez mes sabbats, et qu'ils soient entre moi et vous un signe auquel on connaisse que je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.

Et les fils se révoltèrent contre moi. Ils ne suivirent point mes préceptes, ils n'observèrent point et n'exécutèrent point mes ordonnances, que l'homme doit mettre en pratique, afin de vivre par elles, et ils profanèrent mes sabbats. parce qu'ils ne mirent pas en pratique mes ordonnances, parce qu'ils rejetèrent mes préceptes, profanèrent mes sabbats, et tournèrent leurs yeux vers les idoles de leurs pères.

Je leur donnai aussi des préceptes qui n'étaient pas bons, et des ordonnances par lesquelles ils ne pouvaient vivre.

Je les souillai par leurs offrandes, quand ils faisaient passer par le feu tous leurs premiers-nés; je voulus ainsi les punir, et leur faire connaître que je suis l'Éternel.

C'est pourquoi parle à la maison d'Israël, fils de l'homme, et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Vos pères m'ont encore outragé, en se montrant infidèles à mon égard.

Je les ai conduits dans le pays que j'avais juré de leur donner, et ils ont jeté les yeux sur toute colline élevée et sur tout arbre touffu; là ils ont fait leurs sacrifices, ils ont présenté leurs offrandes qui m'irritaient, ils ont brûlé leurs parfums d'une agréable odeur, et ils ont répandu leurs libations.

Je leur dis: Qu'est-ce que ces hauts lieux où vous vous rendez? Et le nom de hauts lieux leur a été donné jusqu'à ce jour.

C'est pourquoi dis à la maison d'Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Ne vous souillez-vous pas à la manière de vos pères, et ne vous prostituez-vous pas à leurs abominations?

En présentant vos offrandes, en faisant passer vos enfants par le feu, vous vous souillez encore aujourd'hui par toutes vos idoles. Et moi, je me laisserais consulter par vous, maison d'Israël! Je suis vivant! dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, je ne me laisserai pas consulter par vous.

On ne verra pas s'accomplir ce que vous imaginez, quand vous dites: Nous voulons être comme les nations, comme les familles des autres pays, nous voulons servir le bois et la pierre.

Je suis vivant! dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, je régnerai sur vous, à main forte et à bras étendu, et en répandant ma fureur.

Je vous ferai sortir du milieu des peuples, et je vous rassemblerai des pays où vous êtes dispersés, à main forte et à bras étendu, et en répandant ma fureur.

Je vous amènerai dans le désert des peuples, et là je vous jugerai face à face.

Comme je suis entré en jugement avec vos pères dans le désert du pays d'Égypte, ainsi j'entrerai en jugement avec vous, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.

Je vous ferai passer sous la verge, et je vous mettrai dans les liens de l'alliance.

Je séparerai de vous les rebelles et ceux qui me sont infidèles; je les tirerai du pays où ils sont étrangers, mais ils n'iront pas au pays d'Israël. Et vous saurez que je suis l'Éternel.

Et vous, maison d'Israël, ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Allez chacun servir vos idoles! Mais après cela, vous m'écouterez, et vous ne profanerez plus mon saint nom par vos offrandes et par vos idoles.

Car sur ma montagne sainte, sur la haute montagne d'Israël, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, là toute la maison d'Israël, tous ceux qui seront dans le pays me serviront; là je les recevrai favorablement, je rechercherai vos offrandes, les prémices de vos dons, et tout ce que vous me consacrerez.

Je vous recevrai comme un parfum d'une agréable odeur, quand je vous aurai fait sortir du milieu des peuples, et rassemblés des pays où vous êtes dispersés; et je serai sanctifié par vous aux yeux des nations.

Et vous saurez que je suis l'Éternel, quand je vous ramènerai dans le pays d'Israël, dans le pays que j'avais juré de donner à vos pères.

Là vous vous souviendrez de votre conduite et de toutes vos actions par lesquelles vous vous êtes souillés; vous vous prendrez vous-mêmes en dégoût, à cause de toutes les infamies que vous avez commises.

Et vous saurez que je suis l'Éternel, quand j'agirai avec vous par égard pour mon nom, et nullement d'après votre conduite mauvaise et vos actions corrompues, ô maison d'Israël! dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.

La parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

Fils de l'homme, tourne ta face vers le midi, Et parle contre le midi! Prophétise contre la forêt des champs du midi!

Tu diras à la forêt du midi: Écoute la parole de l'Éternel! Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Je vais allumer un feu au dedans de toi, Et il dévorera tout arbre vert et tout arbre sec; La flamme ardente ne s'éteindra point, Et tout visage en sera brûlé, Du midi au septentrion.

Et toute chair verra Que moi, l'Éternel, je l'ai allumé. Il ne s'éteindra point.

Je dis: Ah! Seigneur Éternel! Ils disent de moi: N'est-ce pas un faiseur de paraboles?

1 Старейшины вопрошают Господа, Который не дает ответа и делает обзор исхода из Египта и 21 возмущения Израиля. 32 Господь приведет их в пустыню, будет судиться с ними и выделит из них мятежников; они возгнушаются собою и познают Господа. 45 Пророчество на лес южного поля.

В седьмом году, в пятом месяце, в десятый день месяца, пришли мужи из старейшин Израилевых вопросить Господа и сели перед лицем моим.

И было ко мне слово Господне:

сын человеческий! говори со старейшинами Израилевыми и скажи им: так говорит Господь Бог: вы пришли вопросить Меня? Живу Я, не дам вам ответа, говорит Господь Бог.

Хочешь ли судиться с ними, хочешь ли судиться, сын человеческий? выскажи им мерзости отцов их

и скажи им: так говорит Господь Бог: в тот день, когда Я избрал Израиля и, подняв руку Мою, поклялся племени дома Иаковлева, и открыл Себя им в земле Египетской, и, подняв руку, сказал им: «Я Господь Бог ваш!» –

в тот день, подняв руку Мою, Я поклялся им вывести их из земли Египетской в землю, которую Я усмотрел для них, текущую молоком и медом, красу всех земель,

и сказал им: отвергните каждый мерзости от очей ваших и не оскверняйте себя идолами Египетскими: Я Господь Бог ваш.

Но они возмутились против Меня и не хотели слушать Меня; никто не отверг мерзостей от очей своих и не оставил идолов Египетских. И Я сказал: изолью на них гнев Мой, истощу на них ярость Мою среди земли Египетской.

Но Я поступил ради имени Моего, чтобы оно не хулилось перед народами, среди которых находились они и перед глазами которых Я открыл Себя им, чтобы вывести их из земли Египетской.

И Я вывел их из земли Египетской и привел их в пустыню,

и дал им заповеди Мои, и объявил им Мои постановления, исполняя которые человек жив был бы через них;

дал им также субботы Мои, чтобы они были знамением между Мною и ими, чтобы знали, что Я Господь, освящающий их.

Но дом Израилев возмутился против Меня в пустыне: по заповедям Моим не поступали и отвергли постановления Мои, исполняя которые человек жив был бы через них, и субботы Мои нарушали, и Я сказал: изолью на них ярость Мою в пустыне, чтобы истребить их.

Но Я поступил ради имени Моего, чтобы оно не хулилось перед народами, в глазах которых Я вывел их.

Даже Я, подняв руку Мою против них в пустыне, поклялся, что не введу их в землю, которую Я назначил, – текущую молоком и медом, красу всех земель, –

за то, что они отвергли постановления Мои, и не поступали по заповедям Моим, и нарушали субботы Мои; ибо сердце их стремилось к идолам их.

Но око Мое пожалело погубить их; и Я не истребил их в пустыне.

И говорил Я сыновьям их в пустыне: не ходите по правилам отцов ваших, и не соблюдайте установлений их, и не оскверняйте себя идолами их.

Я Господь Бог ваш: по Моим заповедям поступайте, и Мои уставы соблюдайте, и исполняйте их.

И святите субботы Мои, чтобы они были знамением между Мною и вами, дабы вы знали, что Я Господь Бог ваш.

Но и сыновья возмутились против Меня: по заповедям Моим не поступали и уставов Моих не соблюдали, не исполняли того, что исполняя, человек был бы жив, нарушали субботы Мои, – и Я сказал: изолью на них гнев Мой, истощу над ними ярость Мою в пустыне;

но Я отклонил руку Мою и поступил ради имени Моего, чтобы оно не хулилось перед народами, перед глазами которых Я вывел их.

Также, подняв руку Мою в пустыне, Я поклялся рассеять их по народам и развеять их по землям

за то, что они постановлений Моих не исполняли и заповеди Мои отвергли, и нарушали субботы мои, и глаза их обращались к идолам отцов их.

И попустил им учреждения недобрые и постановления, от которых они не могли быть живы,

и попустил им оскверниться жертвоприношениями их, когда они стали проводить через огонь всякий первый плод утробы, чтобы разорить их, дабы знали, что Я Господь.

Посему говори дому Израилеву, сын человеческий, и скажи им: так говорит Господь Бог: вот чем еще хулили Меня отцы ваши, вероломно поступая против Меня:

Я привел их в землю, которую клятвенно обещал дать им, подняв руку Мою, – а они, высмотрев себе всякий высокий холм и всякое ветвистое дерево, стали заколать там жертвы свои, и ставили там оскорбительные для Меня приношения свои и благовонные курения свои, и возливали там возлияния свои.

И Я говорил им: что это за высота, куда ходите вы? поэтому именем Бама называется она и до сего дня.

Посему скажи дому Израилеву: так говорит Господь Бог: не оскверняете ли вы себя по примеру отцов ваших и не блудодействуете ли вслед мерзостей их?

Принося дары ваши и проводя сыновей ваших через огонь, вы оскверняете себя всеми идолами вашими до сего дня, и хотите вопросить Меня, дом Израилев? живу Я, говорит Господь Бог, не дам вам ответа.

И что приходит вам на ум, совсем не сбудется. Вы говорите: «будем, как язычники, как племена иноземные, служить дереву и камню».

Живу Я, говорит Господь Бог: рукою крепкою и мышцею простертою и излиянием ярости буду господствовать над вами.

И выведу вас из народов и из стран, по которым вы рассеяны, и соберу вас рукою крепкою и мышцею простертою и излиянием ярости.

И приведу вас в пустыню народов, и там буду судиться с вами лицом к лицу.

Как Я судился с отцами вашими в пустыне земли Египетской, так буду судиться с вами, говорит Господь Бог.

И проведу вас под жезлом и введу вас в узы завета.

И выделю из вас мятежников и непокорных Мне. Из земли пребывания их выведу их, но в землю Израилеву они не войдут, и узнаете, что Я Господь.

А вы, дом Израилев, – так говорит Господь Бог, – идите каждый к своим идолам и служите им, если Меня не слушаете, но не оскверняйте более святаго имени Моего дарами вашими и идолами вашими,

потому что на Моей святой горе, на горе высокой Израилевой, – говорит Господь Бог, – там будет служить Мне весь дом Израилев, – весь, сколько ни есть его на земле; там Я с благоволением приму их, и там потребую приношений ваших и начатков ваших со всеми святынями вашими.

Приму вас, как благовонное курение, когда выведу вас из народов и соберу вас из стран, по которым вы рассеяны, и буду святиться в вас перед глазами народов.

И узнаете, что Я Господь, когда введу вас в землю Израилеву, – в землю, которую Я клялся дать отцам вашим, подняв руку Мою.

И вспомните там о путях ваших и обо всех делах ваших, какими вы оскверняли себя, и возгнушаетесь самими собою за все злодеяния ваши, какие вы делали.

И узнаете, что Я Господь, когда буду поступать с вами ради имени Моего, не по злым вашим путям и вашим делам развратным, дом Израилев, – говорит Господь Бог.

И было ко мне слово Господне:

сын человеческий! обрати лице твое на путь к полудню, и произнеси слово на полдень, и изреки пророчество на лес южного поля.

И скажи южному лесу: слушай слово Господа; так говорит Господь Бог: вот, Я зажгу в тебе огонь, и он пожрет в тебе всякое дерево зеленеющее и всякое дерево сухое; не погаснет пылающий пламень, и все будет опалено им от юга до севера.

И увидит всякая плоть, что Я, Господь, зажег его, и он не погаснет.

И сказал я: о, Господи Боже! они говорят обо мне: «не говорит ли он притчи?»
