Now Sarai, Abraḿs wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar.

So Sarai said to Abram, «See now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.» And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.

Then Sarai, Abraḿs wife, took Hagar her maid, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan.

So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes.

Then Sarai said to Abram, «My wrong be upon you! I gave my maid into your embrace; and when she saw that she had conceived, I became despised in her eyes. The LORD judge between you and me.»

So Abram said to Sarai, «Indeed your maid is in your hand; do to her as you please.» And when Sarai dealt harshly with her, she fled from her presence.

Now the Angel of the LORD found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur.

And He said, «Hagar, Saraís maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?» She said, «I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.»

The Angel of the LORD said to her, «Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand.»

Then the Angel of the LORD said to her, «I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude.»

And the Angel of the LORD said to her: «Behold, you are with child, And you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, Because the LORD has heard your affliction.

He shall be a wild man; His hand shall be against every man, And every mańs hand against him. And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.»

Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, «Have I also here seen Him who sees me?»

Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; observe, it is between Kadesh and Bered.

So Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.

Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.

Са́ра же жена́ Авра́мля не ражда́ше ему́: бя́ше же е́й раба́ Еги́птяныня, е́йже и́мя А́гарь.

Рече́ же Са́ра ко Авра́му: се́, заключи́ мя Госпо́дь, е́же не ражда́ти: вни́ди у́бо къ рабѣ́ мое́й, да ча́да сотворю́ от нея́. Послу́ша же Авра́мъ гла́са Са́рина.

И пои́мши Са́ра жена́ Авра́мля А́гарь Еги́птяныню рабу́ свою́, по десяти́ лѣ́тѣхъ вселе́нiя Авра́мля въ земли́ Ханаа́ни, даде́ ю́ въ жену́ Авра́му му́жу своему́.

И вни́де ко А́гари, и зача́тъ: и ви́дѣ, я́ко во чре́вѣ и́мать, и укоре́на бы́сть госпожа́ [ея́] предъ не́ю.

И рече́ Са́ра ко Авра́му: оби́да ми́ от тебе́: а́зъ да́хъ рабу́ мою́ въ нѣ́дро твое́: она́ же ви́дѣвши, я́ко во чре́вѣ и́мать, укоре́на бы́хъ предъ не́ю: суди́ Бо́гъ между́ мно́ю и тобо́ю.

Рече́ же Авра́мъ къ Са́рѣ: се́, раба́ твоя́ въ руку́ твое́ю: твори́ е́й, я́коже ти́ е́сть уго́дно. И озло́би ю́ Са́ра: и отбѣже́ от лица́ ея́.

И обрѣ́те ю́ А́нгелъ Госпо́день у исто́чника воды́ въ пусты́ни, у исто́чника на пути́ Су́ръ.

И рече́ е́й А́нгелъ Госпо́день: А́гарь, рабо́ Са́рина, отку́ду и́деши и ка́мо гряде́ши? И рече́: от лица́ Са́ры госпожи́ моея́ а́зъ бѣгу́.

Рече́ же е́й А́нгелъ Госпо́день: возврати́ся къ госпожѣ́ свое́й и покори́ся подъ руку́ ея́.

И рече́ е́й А́нгелъ Госпо́день: умножа́я умно́жу сѣ́мя твое́, и не сочте́тся от мно́жества.

И рече́ е́й А́нгелъ Госпо́день: се́, ты́ во чре́вѣ и́маши и роди́ши сы́на, и нарече́ши и́мя ему́ Исма́илъ: я́ко услы́ша Госпо́дь смире́нiе твое́:

се́й бу́детъ се́лный человѣ́къ: ру́цѣ его́ на всѣ́хъ, и ру́ки всѣ́хъ на него́, и предъ лице́мъ всея́ бра́тiи своея́ всели́тся.

И призва́ А́гарь и́мя Го́спода глаго́лющаго къ не́й: Ты́ Бо́гъ призрѣ́вый на мя́: я́ко рече́: и́бо предо мно́ю ви́дѣхъ я́вльшагося мнѣ́.

И роди́ А́гарь Авра́му сы́на, и нарече́ Авра́мъ и́мя сы́ну своему́, его́же роди́ ему́ А́гарь, Исма́илъ.

Авра́мъ же бѣ́ лѣ́тъ осми́десяти шести́, егда́ роди́ А́гарь Авра́му Исма́ила.

Sarai autem uxor Abram non genuerat ei liberos; sed habens ancillam Aegyptiam nomine Agar,

dixit marito suo: "Ecce conclusit me Dominus, ne parerem; ingredere ad ancillam meam, si forte saltem ex illa suscipiam filios". Cumque ille acquiesceret deprecanti,

tulit Agar Aegyptiam ancillam suam post annos decem quam habitare coeperant in terra Chanaan, et dedit eam viro suo uxorem.

Qui ingressus est ad eam. At illa concepisse se videns despexit dominam suam.

Dixitque Sarai ad Abram: "Inique agis contra me; ego dedi ancillam meam in sinum tuum, quae videns quod conceperit, despectui me habet. Iudicet Dominus inter me et te".

Cui respondens Abram: "Ecce, ait, ancilla tua in manu tua est; utere ea, ut libet". Affligente igitur eam Sarai, aufugit ab ea.

Cumque invenisset illam angelus Domini iuxta fontem aquae in deserto, ad fontem in via Sur,

dixit: «Agar, ancilla Sarai, unde venis et quo vadis?». Quae respondit: «A facie Sarai dominae meae ego fugio».

Dixitque ei angelus Domini: «Revertere ad dominam tuam et humiliare sub manibus ipsius».

Et dixit ei angelus Domini: «Multiplicans multiplicabo semen tuum, et non numerabitur prae multitudine».

Et dixit ei angelus Domini: «Ecce, concepisti et paries filium vocabisque nomen eius Ismael, eo quod audierit Dominus afflictionem tuam.

Hic erit homo onagro similis; manus eius contra omnes, et manus omnium contra eum; et e regione universorum fratrum suorum figet tabernacula».

Vocavit autem nomen Domini, qui loquebatur ad eam: «Tu Deus, qui vidisti me». Dixit enim: «Profecto hic vidi posteriora videntis me».

Propterea appellatur puteus ille Lahairoi (id est Viventis et Videntis me); ipse est inter Cades et Barad.

Peperitque Agar Abrae filium; qui vocavit nomen filii sui, quem pepererat Agar, Ismael.

Octoginta et sex annorum erat Abram, quando peperit ei Agar Ismaelem.

1 Агарь, служанка египтянка, зачала от Аврама, изгнана Сарою, возвращается после видения в пустыне; 15 рождение её сына, нареченного Измаилом.

Но Сара, жена Аврамова, не рождала ему. У ней была служанка Египтянка, именем Агарь.

И сказала Сара Авраму: вот, Господь заключил чрево мое, чтобы мне не рождать; войди же к служанке моей: может быть, я буду иметь детей от нее. Аврам послушался слов Сары.

И взяла Сара, жена Аврамова, служанку свою, Египтянку Агарь, по истечении десяти лет пребывания Аврамова в земле Ханаанской, и дала ее Авраму, мужу своему, в жену.

Он вошел к Агари, и она зачала. Увидев же, что зачала, она стала презирать госпожу свою.

И сказала Сара Авраму: в обиде моей ты виновен; я отдала служанку мою в недро твое; а она, увидев, что зачала, стала презирать меня; Господь пусть будет судьею между мною и между тобою.

Аврам сказал Саре: вот, служанка твоя в твоих руках; делай с нею, что тебе угодно. И Сара стала притеснять ее, и она убежала от нее.

И нашел ее Ангел Господень у источника воды в пустыне, у источника на дороге к Суру.

И сказал [ей Ангел Господень]: Агарь, служанка Сарина! откуда ты пришла и куда идешь? Она сказала: я бегу от лица Сары, госпожи моей.

Ангел Господень сказал ей: возвратись к госпоже своей и покорись ей.

И сказал ей Ангел Господень: умножая умножу потомство твое, так что нельзя будет и счесть его от множества.

И еще сказал ей Ангел Господень: вот, ты беременна, и родишь сына, и наречешь ему имя Измаил, ибо услышал Господь страдание твое;

он будет между людьми, как дикий осел; руки его на всех, и руки всех на него; жить будет он пред лицем всех братьев своих.

И нарекла [Агарь] Господа, Который говорил к ней, сим именем: Ты Бог видящий меня. Ибо сказала она: точно я видела здесь в след видящего меня.

Посему источник тот называется: Беэр-лахай-рои*. Он находится между Кадесом и между Баредом. //*Источник Живого, видящего меня.

Агарь родила Авраму сына; и нарек [Аврам] имя сыну своему, рожденному от Агари: Измаил.

Аврам был восьмидесяти шести лет, когда Агарь родила Авраму Измаила.
