Why should You be like a man astonished, Like a mighty one who cannot save? Yet You, O LORD, are in our midst, And we are called by Your name; Do not leave us!

Thus says the LORD to this people: «Thus they have loved to wander; They have not restrained their feet. Therefore the LORD does not accept them; He will remember their iniquity now, And punish their sins.»

Then the LORD said to me, «Do not pray for this people, for their good.

When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence.»

Then I said, «Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, the prophets say to them, «You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.»́

And the LORD said to me, «The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart.

Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who prophesy in My name, whom I did not send, and who say, «Sword and famine shall not be in this land́--»By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed!

And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; they will have no one to bury them--them nor their wives, their sons nor their daughters--for I will pour their wickedness on them.́

«Therefore you shall say this word to them: «Let my eyes flow with tears night and day, And let them not cease; For the virgin daughter of my people Has been broken with a mighty stroke, with a very severe blow.

If I go out to the field, Then behold, those slain with the sword! And if I enter the city, Then behold, those sick from famine! Yes, both prophet and priest go about in a land they do not know.»́

Have You utterly rejected Judah? Has Your soul loathed Zion? Why have You stricken us so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but there was no good; And for the time of healing, and there was trouble.

We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness And the iniquity of our fathers, For we have sinned against You.

Do not abhor us, for Your namés sake; Do not disgrace the throne of Your glory. Remember, do not break Your covenant with us.

Are there any among the idols of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are You not He, O LORD our God? Therefore we will wait for You, Since You have made all these.

Рыда́ла Иуде́а, и врата́ ея́ разруши́шася, и отемни́шася на земли́, и во́пль Иерусали́ма взы́де.

И вельмо́жи его́ посла́ша ме́ншихъ свои́хъ къ водѣ́: прiидо́ша на кла́дязи и не обрѣто́ша воды́, и отнесо́ша сосу́ды своя́ тщы́: постыжде́ни су́ть и посра́млени, и покры́ша главы́ своя́.

И дѣла́ земли́ оскудѣ́ша, я́ко не бя́ше дождя́ на зе́млю: постыжде́ни су́ть земледѣ́лцы, покры́ша главы́ своя́.

И еле́ницы на ни́вѣ роди́ша и оста́виша, я́ко не бѣ́ травы́.

Ожида́нiе Изра́илево, Го́споди, спаси́телю на́шъ во вре́мя ско́рби! вску́ю я́ко пришле́цъ еси́ на земли́ и я́ко пу́тникъ укланя́ющься во вита́лище?

Еда́ бу́деши я́коже человѣ́къ спя́й, или́ а́ки му́жъ не могі́й спасти́? ты́ же въ на́съ еси́, Го́споди, и и́мя твое́ при́звано бы́сть на на́съ, не забу́ди на́съ.

Сiя́ глаго́летъ Госпо́дь лю́демъ си́мъ: возлюби́ша подвиза́ти но́зѣ свои́ и не упоко́ишася, и Бо́гъ не благопоспѣши́ въ ни́хъ, ны́нѣ воспомяне́тъ беззако́нiя и́хъ и посѣти́тъ грѣхи́ и́хъ.

Luget Iuda, et portae eius languescunt et contristatae iacent in terra, et clamor Ierusalem ascendit.

Maiores eorum miserunt minores suos ad aquam: venerunt ad cisternas, non invenerunt aquam; reportaverunt vasa sua vacua, confusi sunt et afflicti et operuerunt capita sua.

Propter terrae vastitatem, quia non venit pluvia in terram, confusi sunt agricolae, operuerunt capita sua.

Nam et cerva in agro peperit et reliquit, quia non erat herba.

Et onagri steterunt in collibus, traxerunt aerem quasi thoes; defecerunt oculi eorum, quia non erat herba.

«Si iniquitates nostrae testificantur adversus nos, Domine, fac propter nomen tuum, quoniam multae sunt aversiones nostrae, tibi peccavimus.

Exspectatio Israel, salvator eius in tempore tribulationis, quare quasi peregrinus es in terra et quasi viator declinans ad pernoctandum?

Quare es velut vir attonitus, ut fortis, qui non potest salvare? Tu autem in medio nostri es, Domine, et nomen tuum invocatum est super nos; ne derelinquas nos».

Haec dicit Dominus populo huic: «Ita diligunt vagari, pedes suos non prohibent et Domino non placent». Nunc recordatus est iniquitatum eorum et visitat peccata eorum.

Et dixit Dominus ad me: «Noli orare pro populo isto in bonum.

Cum ieiunaverint, non exaudiam preces eorum; et, si obtulerint holocautomata et oblationes, non suscipiam ea; quoniam gladio et fame et peste consumam eos».

Et dixi: «Heu, Domine Deus! Ecce prophetae dicunt eis: "Non videbitis gladium, et fames non erit in vobis, sed pacem veram dabit vobis in loco isto"».

Et dixit Dominus ad me: «Falso prophetae vaticinantur in nomine meo: non misi eos et non praecepi eis neque locutus sum ad eos; visionem mendacem et divinationem et fraudulentiam et seductionem cordis sui prophetant vobis.

Idcirco haec dicit Dominus contra prophetas, qui prophetant in nomine meo, quos ego non misi, dicentes: "Gladius et fames non erit in terra hac": In gladio et fame consumentur prophetae illi;

et homines, quibus prophetant, erunt proiecti in viis Ierusalem prae fame et gladio, et non erit qui sepeliat eos: ipsi et uxores eorum, filii et filiae eorum, et effundam super eos malum suum.

Et dices ad eos verbum istud: Deducant oculi mei lacrimam per noctem et diem, et non taceant, quoniam contritione magna contrita est virgo filia populi mei, plaga pessima vehementer.

Si egressus fuero ad agros, ecce occisi gladio; et, si introiero in civitatem, ecce attenuati fame; propheta quoque et sacerdos abierunt per terram nescientes».

Numquid proiciens abiecisti Iudam, aut Sion abominata est anima tua? Quare ergo percussisti nos, ita ut nulla sit sanitas? Exspectavimus pacem, et non est bonum, et tempus curationis, et ecce turbatio.

Cognovimus, Domine, impietates nostras, iniquitates patrum nostrorum, quia peccavimus tibi.

Ne des nos in opprobrium propter nomen tuum, ne facias contumeliam solio gloriae tuae; recordare, ne irritum facias foedus tuum nobiscum.

Numquid sunt in sculptilibus gentium, qui pluant, aut caeli possunt dare imbres? Nonne tu es Dominus Deus noster, quem exspectamus? Tu enim fecisti omnia haec.
