1 Война Израиля с Хананеями за овладение наследством каждого колена; Иуда и Симеон изгоняют Хананеев; награда Халева; 21 Вениамин, Манассия, Ефрем, Завулон, Асир, Неффалим и Дан не изгнали их совершенно.

По смерти Иисуса вопрошали сыны Израилевы Господа, говоря: кто из нас прежде пойдет на Хананеев – воевать с ними?

И сказал Господь: Иуда пойдет; вот, Я предаю землю в руки его.

Иуда же сказал Симеону, брату своему: войди со мною в жребий мой, и будем воевать с Хананеями; и я войду с тобою в твой жребий. И пошел с ним Симеон.

И пошел Иуда, и предал Господь Хананеев и Ферезеев в руки их, и побили они из них в Везеке десять тысяч человек.

В Везеке встретились они с Адони-Везеком, сразились с ним и разбили Хананеев и Ферезеев.

Адони-Везек побежал, но они погнались за ним и поймали его и отсекли большие пальцы на руках его и на ногах его.

Тогда сказал Адони-Везек: семьдесят царей с отсеченными на руках и на ногах их большими пальцами собирали [крохи] под столом моим; как делал я, так и мне воздал Бог. И привели его в Иерусалим, и он умер там.

И воевали сыны Иудины против Иерусалима и взяли его, и поразили его мечом и город предали огню.

Потом пошли сыны Иудины воевать с Хананеями, которые жили на горах и на полуденной земле и на низменных местах.

Когда надлежало ей идти, Гофониил научил ее просить у отца ее поле, и она сошла с осла. Халев сказал ей: что тебе?

[Ахса] сказала ему: дай мне благословение; ты дал мне землю полуденную, дай мне и источники воды. И дал ей [Халев по желанию ее] источники верхние и источники нижние.

И сыны [Иофора] Кенеянина, тестя Моисеева, пошли из города Пальм с сынами Иудиными в пустыню Иудину, которая на юг от Арада, и пришли и поселились среди народа.

И пошел Иуда с Симеоном, братом своим, и поразили Хананеев, живших в Цефафе, и предали его заклятию, и оттого называется город сей Хорма.

Господь был с Иудою, и он овладел горою; но жителей долины не мог прогнать, потому что у них были железные колесницы.

И отдали Халеву Хеврон, как говорил Моисей, [и получил он там в наследие три города сынов Енаковых] и изгнал оттуда трех сынов Енаковых.

Но Иевусеев, которые жили в Иерусалиме, не изгнали сыны Вениаминовы, и живут Иевусеи с сынами Вениамина в Иерусалиме до сего дня.

И сыны Иосифа пошли также на Вефиль, и Господь был с ними.

И увидели стражи человека, идущего из города, [и взяли его] и сказали ему: покажи нам вход в город, и сделаем с тобою милость.

Человек сей пошел в землю Хеттеев, и построил [там] город и нарек имя ему Луз. Это имя его до сего дня.

И Манассия не выгнал жителей Бефсана [который есть Скифополь] и зависящих от него городов, Фаанаха и зависящих от него городов, жителей Дора и зависящих от него городов, жителей Ивлеама и зависящих от него городов, жителей Мегиддона и зависящих от него городов; и остались Хананеи жить в земле сей.

Когда Израиль пришел в силу, тогда сделал он Хананеев данниками, но изгнать не изгнал их.

И Ефрем не изгнал Хананеев, живущих в Газере; и жили Хананеи среди их в Газере [и платили им дань].

И Завулон не изгнал жителей Китрона и жителей Наглола, и жили Хананеи среди их и платили им дань.

И Асир не изгнал жителей Акко [которые платили ему дань, и жителей Дора] и жителей Сидона и Ахлава, Ахзива, Хелвы, Афека и Рехова.

И жил Асир среди Хананеев, жителей земли той, ибо не изгнал их.

Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, «Who shall be first to go up for us against the Canaanites to fight against them?»

And the LORD said, «Judah shall go up. Indeed I have delivered the land into his hand.»

So Judah said to Simeon his brother, «Come up with me to my allotted territory, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I will likewise go with you to your allotted territory.» And Simeon went with him.

Then Judah went up, and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand; and they killed ten thousand men at Bezek.

And they found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and fought against him; and they defeated the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

Then Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.

And Adoni-Bezek said, «Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me.» Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

Now the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem and took it; they struck it with the edge of the sword and set the city on fire.

And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who dwelt in the mountains, in the South, and in the lowland.

Then Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron. (Now the name of Hebron was formerly Kirjath Arba.) And they killed Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

From there they went against the inhabitants of Debir. (The name of Debir was formerly Kirjath Sepher.)

Then Caleb said, «Whoever attacks Kirjath Sepher and takes it, to him I will give my daughter Achsah as wife.»

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb́s younger brother, took it; so he gave him his daughter Achsah as wife.

Now it happened, when she came to him, that she urged him to ask her father for a field. And she dismounted from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, «What do you wish?»

So she said to him, «Give me a blessing; since you have given me land in the South, give me also springs of water.» And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

Now the children of the Kenite, Moseś father-in-law, went up from the City of Palms with the children of Judah into the Wilderness of Judah, which lies in the South near Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

And Judah went with his brother Simeon, and they attacked the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. So the name of the city was called Hormah.

Also Judah took Gaza with its territory, Ashkelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory.

So the LORD was with Judah. And they drove out the mountaineers, but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the lowland, because they had chariots of iron.

And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said. Then he expelled from there the three sons of Anak.

But the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem; so the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

And the house of Joseph also went up against Bethel, and the LORD was with them.

So the house of Joseph sent men to spy out Bethel. (The name of the city was formerly Luz.)

And when the spies saw a man coming out of the city, they said to him, «Please show us the entrance to the city, and we will show you mercy.»

So he showed them the entrance to the city, and they struck the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man and all his family go.

And the man went to the land of the Hittites, built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.

However, Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages; for the Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land.

And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites under tribute, but did not completely drive them out.

Nor did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer; so the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

Nor did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron or the inhabitants of Nahalol; so the Canaanites dwelt among them, and were put under tribute.

Nor did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Acco or the inhabitants of Sidon, or of Ahlab, Achzib, Helbah, Aphik, or Rehob.

So the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.

Nor did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh or the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but they dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land. Nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and Beth Anath were put under tribute to them.

And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountains, for they would not allow them to come down to the valley;

and the Amorites were determined to dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim; yet when the strength of the house of Joseph became greater, they were put under tribute.

Now the boundary of the Amorites was from the Ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela, and upward.

Aconteció después de la muerte de Josué, que los hijos de Israel hicieron esta consulta a Jehová:

—¿Quién de nosotros subirá primero a pelear contra los cananeos?

Jehová respondió:

—Judá subirá; porque yo he entregado la tierra en sus manos.

Judá dijo a su hermano Simeón:

«Sube conmigo al territorio que se me ha adjudicado y peleemos contra el cananeo; y yo también iré contigo al tuyo.»

Y Simeón fue con él.

Judá subió, y Jehová entregó en sus manos al cananeo y al ferezeo, e hirieron de ellos en Bezec a diez mil hombres.

Hallaron a Adoni-bezec en Bezec, pelearon contra él y derrotaron al cananeo y al ferezeo.

Adoni-bezec huyó, pero ellos lo persiguieron, lo prendieron, y le cortaron los pulgares de las manos y de los pies.

Entonces dijo Adoni-bezec:

«Setenta reyes, con los pulgares de sus manos y de sus pies cortados, recogían las migajas debajo de mi mesa. Como yo hice, así me ha pagado Dios.»

Cuando ella se iba con él, Otoniel la persuadió para que pidiera a su padre un campo. Acsa se bajó del asno, y Caleb le preguntó:

—¿Qué tienes?

Ella le respondió:

—Concédeme un don; puesto que me has dado tierra del Neguev, dame también fuentes de aguas.

Entonces Caleb le dio las fuentes de arriba y las fuentes de abajo.

Y los hijos del ceneo, suegro de Moisés, subieron de la ciudad de las palmeras con los hijos de Judá al desierto de Judá, que está en el Neguev, cerca de Arad, y habitaron con el pueblo.

Los que espiaban vieron a un hombre que salía de allí y le dijeron:

Así lo hizo, y ellos hirieron la ciudad a filo de espada, pero dejaron ir a aquel hombre con toda su familia.

Él se fue a la tierra de los heteos y edificó una ciudad a la cual llamó Luz. Y éste es su nombre hasta hoy.

Tampoco Manasés expulsó a los de Bet-seán ni a los de sus aldeas, ni a los de Taanac y sus aldeas, ni a los de Dor y sus aldeas, ni a los habitantes de Ibleam y sus aldeas, ni a los que vivían en Meguido y en sus aldeas; y el cananeo persistía en habitar en aquella tierra.

Cuando Israel se sintió fuerte, hizo tributario al cananeo, pero no lo expulsó.

Tampoco Efraín expulsó al cananeo que habitaba en Gezer, sino dejó que el cananeo habitara en medio de ellos.

Tampoco Zabulón expulsó a los que habitaban en Quitrón, ni a los que habitaban en Naalal, sino que el cananeo habitó en medio de él y le fue tributario.

Tampoco Aser expulsó a los que habitaban en Aco, ni a los que vivían en Sidón, en Ahlab, en Aczib, en Helba, en Afec y en Rehob.

Y vivió Aser entre los cananeos que habitaban en la tierra, pues no los expulsó.

Tampoco Neftalí expulsó a los que vivían en Bet-semes ni a los de Bet-anat, sino que vivió entre los cananeos que habitaban en la tierra; pero le fueron tributarios los habitantes de Bet-semes y los de Bet-anat.

Los amorreos empujaron a los hijos de Dan hasta la montaña, y no los dejaron descender a los llanos.
