И се́, человѣ́къ от сыно́въ Изра́илевыхъ прише́дъ приведе́ бра́та своего́ къ Мадiани́тынѣ предъ Моисе́емъ и предъ всѣ́мъ со́нмомъ Изра́илевымъ: сі́и же пла́кахуся предъ две́рьми ски́нiи свидѣ́нiя.

И ви́дѣвъ Финее́съ, сы́нъ Елеаза́ра сы́на Ааро́на жерца́, воста́ изъ среды́ со́нма, и взе́мъ су́лицу въ ру́ку,

вражду́йте Мадiани́томъ и бі́йте я́:

Финеес, сын Елеазара, поражает израильтян, впавших в идолопоклонство и распутство.

И жил Израиль в Ситтиме, и начал народ блудодействовать с дочерями Моава,

и приглашали они народ к жертвам богов своих, и ел народ [жертвы их] и кланялся богам их.

И прилепился Израиль к Ваал-Фегору. И воспламенился гнев Господень на Израиля.

И сказал Господь Моисею: возьми всех начальников народа и повесь их Господу перед солнцем, и отвратится от Израиля ярость гнева Господня.

И сказал Моисей судьям Израилевым: убейте каждый людей своих, прилепившихся к Ваал-Фегору.

И вот, некто из сынов Израилевых пришел и привел к братьям своим Мадианитянку, в глазах Моисея и в глазах всего общества сынов Израилевых, когда они плакали у входа скинии собрания.

Имя убитого Израильтянина, который убит с Мадианитянкою, было Зимри, сын Салу, начальник поколения Симеонова;

а имя убитой Мадианитянки Хазва; она была дочь Цура, начальника Оммофа, племени Мадиамского.

И сказал Господь Моисею, говоря:

враждуйте с Мадианитянами, и поражайте их,

ибо они враждебно поступили с вами в коварстве своем, прельстив вас Фегором и Хазвою, дочерью начальника Мадиамского, сестрою своею, убитою в день поражения за Фегора.

Als das Volk bei Schittim lagerte, begannen die Männer, sich mit moabitischen Frauen einzulassen.

Die Moabiterinnen luden die Männer Israels auch zu den Opferfesten ein, die sie zu Ehren ihres Gottes feierten. Die Männer aßen von dem Opferfleisch und warfen sich anbetend vor dem Moabitergott zu Boden.

So ließ sich Israel in das Joch des Baal vom Berg Pegor einspannen.

Da wurde der HERR zornig

und befahl Mose: »Nimm alle Anführer des Volkes fest und lass sie sofort, noch am hellen Tag, vor meinen Augen hinrichten, damit ich in meinem glühenden Zorn nicht das ganze Volk vernichten muss!«

Mose befahl den Schiedsmännern des Volkes: »Tötet von den Leuten, für die ihr zuständig seid, alle, die sich mit dem Baal eingelassen haben!«

Mose und die ganze Gemeinde Israel hatten sich klagend und trauernd vor dem Heiligen Zelt niedergeworfen. Da brachte ein Israelit vor aller Augen eine midianitische Frau in das Zelt seiner Familie.

Als der Priester Pinhas, der Sohn Eleasars und Enkel Aarons, das sah, stand er auf und verließ die Versammlung. Er nahm einen Speer,

folgte den beiden in den innersten Raum des Zeltes und durchbohrte sie. Sofort hörte die Seuche, die unter dem Volk wütete, auf.

Es waren schon 24000 Menschen daran gestorben.

Der HERR sagte zu Mose:

»Pinhas, der Priester, der Sohn von Eleasar und Enkel von Aaron, hat die Strafe vom Volk abgewendet. Er hat denselben Zorn empfunden wie ich und aus diesem Zorn heraus hat er gehandelt. Sonst hätte ich meinem Zorn den Lauf gelassen und noch alle Israeliten umgebracht.

Sag ihm, dass ich ihm dafür ein besonderes Vorrecht gewähre: Ich schließe mit ihm einen Bund, der ihm Frieden zusichert.

Ich verspreche ihm, dass seine Nachkommen für alle Zeiten meine Priester sein sollen. Das ist der Lohn dafür, dass er sich so rückhaltlos für seinen Gott eingesetzt und das Verhältnis zwischen mir und dem Volk wieder in Ordnung gebracht hat.«

Der Israelit, der zusammen mit der Midianiterin getötet wurde, war Simri, der Sohn Salus, ein Sippenältester des Stammes Simeon.

Die Frau hieß Kosbi; ihr Vater Zur war der Anführer einer midianitischen Stammesgruppe.

Der HERR befahl Mose:

»Greift die Midianiter an und bestraft sie!

Denn sie haben angefangen und euch heimtückisch angegriffen: Sie haben euch dazu verführt, den Baal vom Berg Pegor zu verehren, und sie haben euch ins Unheil gestürzt durch Kosbi, die Tochter eines ihrer Oberhäupter, die an dem Tag getötet wurde, als die Seuche unter euch wütete.«

They invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.

So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and the anger of the LORD was aroused against Israel.

Then the LORD said to Moses, «Take all the leaders of the people and hang the offenders before the LORD, out in the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel.»

So Moses said to the judges of Israel, «Every one of you kill his men who were joined to Baal of Peor.»

And indeed, one of the children of Israel came and presented to his brethren a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of meeting.

Now when Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose from among the congregation and took a javelin in his hand;

and he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stopped among the children of Israel.

And those who died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

«Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the children of Israel, because he was zealous with My zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My zeal.

Therefore say, «Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace;

and it shall be to him and his descendants after him a covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.»́
