The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,
to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, «which,» He said, «you have heard from Me;
for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.»
Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, «Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?»
And He said to them, «It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.»
Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,
who also said, «Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.»
Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath daýs journey.
And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James.
These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty), and said,
«Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus;
for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry.»
(Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out.
And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.)
«For it is written in the Book of Psalms: «Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it́; and, «Let another take his office.́
«Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.»
And they proposed two: Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
And they prayed and said, «You, O Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen
to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.»
And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Они́ же у́бо соше́дшеся вопроша́ху Его́, глаго́люще: Го́споди, а́ще въ лѣ́то сiе́ устроя́еши ца́рствiе Изра́илево?
Рече́ же къ ни́мъ: нѣ́сть ва́ше разумѣ́ти времена́ и лѣ́та, я́же Оте́цъ положи́ во Свое́й вла́сти:
но прiи́мете си́лу, наше́дшу Свято́му Ду́ху на вы́, и бу́дете Ми́ свидѣ́телiе во Иерусали́мѣ же и во все́й Иуде́и и Самарі́и и да́же до послѣ́днихъ земли́.
И сiя́ ре́къ, зря́щымъ и́мъ взя́тся, и о́блакъ подъя́тъ Его́ от о́чiю и́хъ.
И егда́ взира́юще бя́ху на не́бо, иду́щу Ему́, и се́, му́жа два́ ста́ста предъ ни́ми во оде́жди бѣ́лѣ,
я́же и реко́ста: му́жiе Галиле́йстiи, что́ стоите́ зря́ще на не́бо? Се́й Иису́съ, вознесы́йся от ва́съ на небо, та́кожде прiи́детъ, и́мже о́бразомъ ви́дѣсте Его́ иду́ща на небо.

сі́и вси́ бя́ху терпя́ще единоду́шно въ моли́твѣ и моле́нiи, съ жена́ми и Марі́ею Ма́терiю Иису́совою и съ бра́тiею Его́.
И во дни́ ты́я воста́въ Пе́тръ посредѣ́ учени́къ, рече́,
бѣ́ же име́нъ наро́да вку́пѣ я́ко сто́ и два́десять: му́жiе бра́тiе, подоба́ше сконча́тися Писа́нiю сему́, е́же предрече́ Ду́хъ Святы́й усты́ Дави́довыми о Иу́дѣ, бы́вшемъ вожди́ е́мшымъ Иису́са:
я́ко причте́нъ бѣ́ съ на́ми и прiя́лъ бя́ше жре́бiй слу́жбы сея́:
се́й у́бо стяжа́ село́ от мзды́ непра́ведныя, и ни́цъ бы́въ просѣ́деся посредѣ́, и излiя́ся вся́ утро́ба его́:
и разу́мно бы́сть всѣ́мъ живу́щымъ во Иерусали́мѣ, я́ко нарещи́ся селу́ тому́ свои́мъ и́хъ язы́комъ Акелдама́, е́же е́сть село́ кро́ве:
пи́шется бо въ кни́зѣ Псало́мстѣй: да бу́детъ дво́ръ его́ пу́стъ, и да не бу́детъ живу́щаго въ не́мъ, и епи́скопство его́ да прiи́метъ и́нъ:
подоба́етъ у́бо от сходи́вшихся съ на́ми муже́й во вся́ко лѣ́то, въ не́же вни́де и изы́де въ на́съ Госпо́дь Иису́съ,
наче́нъ от креще́нiя Иоа́ннова да́же до дне́, въ о́ньже вознесе́ся [на небо] от на́съ, свидѣ́телю воскресе́нiя Его́ бы́ти съ на́ми еди́ному от си́хъ.
И поста́виша два́, Ио́сифа нарица́емаго Варса́ву, и́же нарече́нъ бы́сть Иу́стъ, и Матѳі́а,
и помоли́вшеся рѣ́ша: Ты́, Го́споди, Се́рдцевѣ́дче всѣ́хъ, покажи́, его́же избра́лъ еси́ от сею́ двою́ еди́наго,
прiя́ти жре́бiй служе́нiя сего́ и апо́столства, изъ него́же испаде́ Иу́да, ити́ въ мѣ́сто свое́.
И да́ша жре́бiя и́ма, и паде́ жре́бiй на Матѳі́а, и причте́нъ бы́сть ко единона́десяти апо́столомъ.
τὸν μὲν πρῶτον λόγον ἐποιησάμην περὶ πάντων ὦ Θεόφιλε ὧν ἤρξατο ὁ Ἰησοῦς ποιεῖν τε καὶ διδάσκειν
ἄχρι ἧς ἡμέρας ἐντειλάμενος τοῖς ἀποστόλοις διὰ πνεύματος ἁγίου οὓς ἐξελέξατο ἀνελήμφθη
οἷς καὶ παρέστησεν ἑαυτὸν ζῶντα μετὰ τὸ παθεῖν αὐτὸν ἐν πολλοῖς τεκμηρίοις δι᾿ ἡμερῶν τεσσεράκοντα ὀπτανόμενος αὐτοῖς καὶ λέγων τὰ περὶ τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ θεοῦ
καὶ συναλιζόμενος παρήγγειλεν αὐτοῖς ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων μὴ χωρίζεσθαι ἀλλὰ περιμένειν τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τοῦ πατρὸς ἣν ἠκούσατέ μου
ὅτι Ἰωάννης μὲν ἐβάπτισεν ὕδατι ὑμεῖς δὲ ἐν πνεύματι βαπτισθήσεσθε ἁγίῳ οὐ μετὰ πολλὰς ταύτας ἡμέρας
οἱ μὲν οὖν συνελθόντες ἠρώτων αὐτὸν λέγοντες κύριε εἰ ἐν τῷ χρόνῳ τούτῳ ἀποκαθιστάνεις τὴν βασιλείαν τῷ Ἰσραήλ
εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς οὐχ ὑμῶν ἐστιν γνῶναι χρόνους ἢ καιροὺς οὓς ὁ πατὴρ ἔθετο ἐν τῇ ἰδίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ
ἀλλὰ λήμψεσθε δύναμιν ἐπελθόντος τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς καὶ ἔσεσθέ μου μάρτυρες ἔν τε Ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἐν πάσῃ τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ καὶ Σαμαρείᾳ καὶ ἕως ἐσχάτου τῆς γῆς
καὶ ταῦτα εἰπὼν βλεπόντων αὐτῶν ἐπήρθη καὶ νεφέλη ὑπέλαβεν αὐτὸν ἀπὸ τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτῶν
καὶ ὡς ἀτενίζοντες ἦσαν εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν πορευομένου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνδρες δύο παρειστήκεισαν αὐτοῖς ἐν ἐσθήσεσι λευκαῖς
οἳ καὶ εἶπαν ἄνδρες Γαλιλαῖοι τί ἑστήκατε ἐμβλέποντες εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν οὗτος ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὁ ἀναλημφθεὶς ἀφ᾿ ὑμῶν εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν οὕτως ἐλεύσεται ὃν τρόπον ἐθεάσασθε αὐτὸν πορευόμενον εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν
τότε ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ ἀπὸ ὄρους τοῦ καλουμένου ἐλαιῶνος ὅ ἐστιν ἐγγὺς Ἰερουσαλὴμ σαββάτου ἔχον ὁδόν
καὶ ὅτε εἰσῆλθον εἰς τὸ ὑπερῷον ἀνέβησαν οὗ ἦσαν καταμένοντες ὅ τε Пέτρος καὶ Ἰωάννης καὶ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἀνδρέας Φίλιππος καὶ Θωμᾶς Βαρθολομαῖος καὶ Μαθθαῖος Ἰάκωβος Ἁλφαίου καὶ Σίμων ὁ ζηλωτὴς καὶ Ἰούδας Ἰακώβου

οὗτος μὲν οὖν ἐκτήσατο χωρίον ἐκ μισθοῦ τῆς ἀδικίας καὶ πρηνὴς γενόμενος ἐλάκησεν μέσος καὶ ἐξεχύθη πάντα τὰ σπλάγχνα αὐτοῦ
καὶ γνωστὸν ἐγένετο πᾶσι τοῖς κατοικοῦσιν Ἰερουσαλήμ ὥστε κληθῆναι τὸ χωρίον ἐκεῖνο τῇ ἰδίᾳ διαλέκτῳ αὐτῶν Ἁκελδαμάχ τοῦτ᾿ ἔστιν χωρίον αἵματος
γέγραπται γὰρ ἐν βίβλῳ ψαλμῶν γενηθήτω ἡ ἔπαυλις αὐτοῦ ἔρημος καὶ μὴ ἔστω ὁ κατοικῶν ἐν αὐτῇ καί τὴν ἐπισκοπὴν αὐτοῦ λαβέτω ἕτερος
